Ray Twitty, age 85, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, June 5, 1993 at his residence.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kent Berry officiating. MiitaryGraveside Rites followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Waco, conducted by the V.F.W. Post No. 4819 of West.
Mr. Twitty was born December 19, 1907 in Allsboro, Alabama, the son of James and Edna Twitty. He married George Ann (Georgie) Alexander on August 30, 1948 in West. He worked for the Hruska Grocery Store in West for seven years. He attended Stamps Music School in Dallas as a young man. He was a 1957 graduate of Baylor University receiving a Bachelor of Music degree with a major in music education. He also had post-graduate training at Southwest Texas State University at San Marcus. He was a music teacher, teaching in schools in Itasca and New Braunfels before moving back to West. He taught kindergarten in Lacy-Lakeview before opening The Little Academy, a Kindergarten school in West, which he operated from 1965 to 1978. He continued teaching music; piano, organ, violin, accordion and guitar; to students in West up until recently. He was a member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church in Lacy-Lakeview.
Mr. Twitty served his country with the United States Army during World War II, with the 357th Infantry Medical Detachment until the war ended. He participated in five campaigns, the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe during the war in Europe. Among his awards are the medical badge, issued to combat medics, bronze star medal, and bronze arrowhead for participating in the Normandy invasion. He was in Ustalec, Czechoslovakia, when the war ended. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4819 in West.
He is survived by his wife, Georgie Twitty of West; three sisters, Edith Bresler of Rusk, Judy Bresler of Lovington, New Mexico and Tracyne McDonald of Ducanville; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Steve Podsednik, Steve Rankin, Rex Lewis, Fristoe Kelsey, Bobbie Tillman and Steve Alexander.
Memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance or to the West Community Hospital.
Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
Raymond married Georgie Ann Alexander, daughter of Stephen Henninger Alexander Sr and Sarah Ann Hixon, on 30 Aug 1948 in West, McLennan, TX.
